Most of them have hundreds of pages of the type of detail you are looking for.įor something that proclaims itself a Guide to Faerûn, I would expect more references to people, political organizations, and historical events, rather than minimal amounts. If so, then I'd recommend one of the officially published campaign setting books. It sounds like you are actually looking for a DM's campaign book. So it presents only the type of information that might be easily acquired or commonly known by it's more well-educated and well-traveled. While it certainly can be used as a helpful quick reference for DMs, it was created to be used by players as an in-character item. Similarly, although detailed commerce data is missing, many entries DO discuss the major trade goods and services for which different places are well known.Īs I stated in the description, this is an item that is intended as a simple overview of the major features of Faerun. I think it would be very strange that a traveler who had written about the places he visited, would have access to census data. You are correct that exact population numbers, except in a few cases, are not specified - I used terms like metropolis, city, town, small village, etc., to indicate sizes. But I think the preview makes it clear what you should have expected from the location descriptions. I'm sorry it wasn't what you were looking for. There are minimal references to specific people and organizations, to make it as compatible as possible with campaigns set in any period of the Forgotten Realms. It can also be "found" by players, to help them with their travel and adventuring decisions, by placing it in a library, a bookstore, a mage's workshop, the hands of a dead traveller, or anywhere nosy adventurers go poking around! While it is by no means a complete campaign sourcebook, it can be very useful for DMs who would like to have a quick and concise overview of the lands of Faerun at their fingertips. Organized by geographical region, it includes 16 pages and over one hundred clear and succint descriptions of some of the major kingdoms, cities, and other famous locations throughout the continent, including the Sword Coast. This guide provides a concise overview of some of the most well-known locations on the continent of Faerun - home to the Sword Coast, and the primary setting for the majority of Wizards of the Coast's 5th edition campaign publications. A great reference for both players and DMs!
